"The island was a black shadow behind me, and the waves an invisible mystery before me." (page 180) Do you feel as Ben does about certain furture situations you must experience---do you consider your future endeavors "invisible mysteries" as well? How does this quote make you feel about the upcoming events presented throughout the next chapters?

Yes, I believe my future holds "invisible mysteries." I have no clue where I may go in life, the road being uncertain. Also, I feel like I have a connection to Ben as his life is the same way. In being stuck on the island, Ben and his brothers have no idea about what faces them in the future.

I am on the fence about my answer. On one hand, I do not feel like my future is completely an "invisible mystery" because the decisions I make in present time help determine what my future will hold. For example, by trying to be the best I can be in school, it gives me the comfort of knowing I will go to a good college. However, if I were in his situation, I would definitely feel the way Ben does; the future would be out of my hands, and I would never be able to predict what will happen. Each day we live is uncertain, but it is why I feel optimistic about the upcoming events presented throughout the next chapters. Even though Ben and his brothers have gone through many struggles, everything could be fixed in the next week, day, or hour. They would never know, but it is why the "invisible mysteries" of the future may not be so bad after all.
