On page 116, Ben's father says "Now we have a chance to do even more, learn even more." Why do you think his father always wants to keep going and never stop to settle? Also, on page 121, Ben calls his dad "crazy." How would you sum up the father in one word? Why?

I think Ben's dad feels a need to keep moving because he thinks that if he stops, his mind will drift to the topic of his wife; a source of depression for him. If I were to sum up the dad in one word, I would use the word desperate. His constant need to leave behind the past verges on frantic. This behavior gives the reader the impression that if he doesnt leave, something bad will happen.

I think his father feels that being reckless, moving fast, never stopping, and not listening to others(like his sons) who want to slow their progress is the best way to run away from the memory of Christine. I would definitly call the father 'restless' because he has a thirst for escape that can never be satiated, despite his constant-on-the-go mindset. There's an ocean of water around him, but not a drop to drink that would quench his thirst for wanting to escape Christine. It's ironic that Ben calls his father crazy just before he disappears, as the ocean seems to be the solution to his madness as well as the cause.
