On page 60, Ben discusses a feeling of "free falling" on the boat trip because he never knows what is coming next. During events that you have experienced where you, like Ben, are not in control of the agenda (ex. family vacations, field trips, etc.), do you feel like you are "free falling"? Would you rather prefer spontaneity? What does this say about your character in comparison to Ben's?

I really like that pkittenage from the text; it was an awesome way to describe his feelings. I totally understand how he feels but I actually prefer the spontaneity--it seems more like an adventure that way. Although I am sure surprise while on a boat in the middle of an ocean is not very rekittenuring, so I could definitely see where Ben seems worried--I would be too. I do think Ben and I would be on the same page in reaction to this type of spontaneity but in other situations I would better take to the elements of surprise!

I love the description of free falling. When taking personal experiences in comparison to Ben's, I completely understand what he is talking about: "free falling" makes it not only seem like you have no control over what happens; it reminds me of twisting and flailing through the air, struggling to land on your feet (or being sure of the future, in Ben's case). In most instances, I prefer spontaneity. I love the rush of never knowing what is going to happen next, unless it's something that requires much planning, like a Barmitzfa. Ben and I are pretty similar. We like to be in control and the leader of situations, and when we aren't, we tend to panic or worry and feel like we have no control whatsoever; we feel as though we are falling quickly to the ground to our doom.
